What to do if somebody has received an electrical shock
If the mains are switched on – do not touch the person – our bodies can conduct electricity and you may receive a shock too.
Switch off the mains immediately. If you cannot switch off the mains, you still need to get the person away from the current as soon as possible.
It is recommended that you stand on something that is dry and will not conduct electricity – for example wood, paper etc.
Then use something else non-conductive to try break the person away from the electricity source.
This could be the handle of a sweeping brush, a chair etc. Call an ambulance as soon as possible.
Never move a person unless they are in immediate danger – oncoming traffic etc.
If the person is not breathing, begin CPR.
If you see any burns, try to cover them with clean lint free cloths or bandages – towels and other materials can cause fibres to stick to the wounds.
